    In mac os, you don't need any extra tools or applications to hide files and folders. you can just put a period(.) at the starting of the file/folder to hide them.
    after that file or folder will not be displayed. This can be again made visible and invisible by the following commands

    Notes: type the following commands in the terminal application

    *To show hidden files and folders*:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
    killall Finder

    To hide files and folders starting with period (.) :

    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
    killall Finder
